A few phrases make checkout in Japan effortless.
This page collects the short, practical lines that come up again and again at convenience stores and drugstores—what to say, what to expect, and how to read the label.
Convenience store basics
- Hot snacks: point at the item photo and say:
“This one, please.” / 「これ、ください」 - Warming food:
“Could you heat it up?” / 「温めてください」
Payment tips
Most places accept cash, credit cards, and IC cards (Suica/PASMO). If the reader asks “bag?” you can say:
“Yes, please.” / 「お願いします」
Quick label hints
- “Limited” / 期間限定 = limited time
- 辛い = spicy
- 甘い = sweet
I’ll keep adding phrases as I run into more real situations.
